Tasting Notes

The 2018 Chateau Margaux is a wine of extraordinary precision and elegance. The nose opens with layers of blackcurrant, violet and graphite, underpinned by subtle notes of cedar and tobacco from its oak ageing. On the palate, the wine displays remarkable concentration and purity, with silky tannins that frame flavours of dark berry fruits, liquorice and mineral complexity. The finish is exceptionally long, revealing hints of dark chocolate and espresso. This is a Margaux of rare beauty and power.

The Vintage

The 2018 growing season in Bordeaux was marked by a warm, dry summer following a cool, wet spring. The resulting wines show extraordinary concentration and ripeness, with the Margaux appellation producing wines of exceptional finesse. Critics have compared the vintage favourably to the legendary 2009 and 2010 vintages.

The Estate

Chateau Margaux has been producing wine since the 12th century and was one of four estates to receive the Premier Grand Cru Classe designation in the famous 1855 Classification. Under the stewardship of the Mentzelopoulos family since 1977, the estate has undergone a remarkable renaissance, consistently producing wines that rank among the finest in the world.

Cellaring Advice

This wine will reward patient cellaring. While approachable from 2028, it will continue to develop complexity through 2065 and beyond in optimal storage conditions. Store at 12 to 14 degrees Celsius with 70% humidity. Decant for two to three hours before serving at 17 to 18 degrees.
